California Lodging Industry Association
CLIA, since its inception in 1946, has served as a major voice for the independent lodging industry when group action has been needed, especially important when lobbying industry views before government agencies. In addition, the Association is continually aware of the need to provide programs and services required by members to more effectively and profitably operate their businesses.

In order to accomplish these goals, a small group of motel owners first formed the Motor Hotel Association of California, later to become known as the California Motel Association, as a non-profit trade organization. First based in Los Angeles, the Association began as individual chapters throughout the state under the "parent" association. According to past records, the chapters grew in numbers and activities.

Some years ago, realizing the need to be "closer to the action, " CLIA moved to Sacramento. Now the Association could become more actively involved in representing its members to the State Legislature.
Services
As a trade association, CLIA follows those same principles in marketing our services to the lodging industry.
In fact, our mission statement clearly states the "niche" of the industry we serve.
It reads: "The mission of the California Lodging Industry Association is to promote, protect and advance the interests of lodging owners and their management teams statewide, and to provide a network of resources to support member efficiency, profitability and professionalism."
The key ingredient in this mission statement identifies CLIA's unique niche as lodging owners and operators.
The California Lodging Industry Association (CLIA) has a long history of serving California hotels owners and the hotel industry.
I am honored to be serving as its President.
Over the years the dedication of the CLIA staff and its various Boards of Directors has made it possible for CLIA to continue its work today.
I look forward to continuing that work and building on the foundation that has been established by the efforts of so many others.
To provide regional educational seminars on topics of interest to the local hotel community.
Membership in CLIA is focused on the lodging property, with the owner or operator as its representative.

Vendors or management companies that provide products or services to lodging property and vacation rental management companies.
Government or non-profit organizations that provide services to the tourism/hospitality industry.
Faculty/Student members are persons teaching or enrolled in a California accredited two-year or four-year degree program specific to hospitality management.
CLIA proudly specializes in meeting the needs of California's lodging owners and their management teams.
Governed by a board of directors comprised of owners and managers who are actively involved in the operation of their business on a day-to-day basis, CLIA encourages and nurtures the entrepreneurial spirit.
LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY ADVOCACY: As the recognized advocacy leader for the lodging industry in California, our lobbying team works closely with State Legislators, Labor and Industrial Welfare Officials and Environmental Regulators to fight for reasonable regulations and advocate common-sense reforms to improve California's business climate for our members.
CLIA created the Excellence in Lodging & Hospitality Awards to recognize achievement and pay tribute to owners, their management team of CLIA member properties and their dedicated staff members who serve the traveling public.
This is CLIA's way of "recognizing our own" and honoring the "best of the best!"
