The Orcas Hotel has been welcoming travelers since 1904. Whether you stay for a night in one of the Victorian rooms, or join us for a meal overlooking the Salish Sea and Orcas Ferry Landing, or just walk the memorable grounds, we have a feeling that you'll love the property's rich history and warm island hospitality. John and Julia purchased Orcas Hotel in 2020.

Originally from Washington, D.C., Julia is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in London and Cambridge University. John was raised in Northern New Mexico, and spent the last two decades cooking his way around the Pacific, from Hana, Maui to Big Sur, California. John and Julia met while working at celebrated Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur.

To make a long story short: After living in Astoria, Oregon, they fell in love with the climate and camaraderie of the Pacific Northwest, in part because it reminds them of Scotland where they were married.Searching for a place to put down some roots, they found the hotel of their dreams on Orcas Island.
Services
Built from 1900 to 1904, The Orcas Hotel has been residing above the ferry landing ever since.
The Van Moorhem family operated the hotel for a number of years, and Octavia Van Moorhem became well-known for her home cooking.
1948: Jackson sells the hotel to longtime islanders named Clyde and Dorothy Brown, in October.
The Browns operate the hotel until 1950, mainly as a boarding house for workers building the Kaiser Estate in Deer Harbor.
Like Octavia Van Moorhem, Dorothy becomes well-known for her home cooking.
