The Mt. Williamson Motel and Base camp offers rustic, relaxing, and affordable accommodation with panoramic views of the Eastern Sierra. We are located on highway 395 in Independence California, halfway between Death Valley and Yosemite. We stand as a gateway to explore all the beauty that the Eastern Sierra has to offer, whether you are on foot or passing through in a car.

Each cabin has new beds, linens, and towels. They are equipped with a full bathroom, refrigerator, kettle, microwave, free WiFi, and cable TV.

The Mt Williamson Motel and Basecamp is nestled between the Sierra Nevada and Inyo Mountain ranges on the historic Highway 395.

Our backdrop, Mt Williamson is the second highest peak in California (14,389) and is home to the Williamson Bighorn Sheep herd.
The motel became an integral part of the backpacking community after being purchased by prior owner Strider in 2013.
Kearsarge pass is our favorite " backyard" Mountain to climb.
Standing at 11,709 ft, the pass offers breathtaking views of the John Muir Wilderness and the Owens Valley.
The Onion Valley trail-head is a quick 13 mile drive from the Mt Williamson Motel.
We offer rides to and from the Onion Valley for through hikers staying with us.
The mission of the Museum, which was founded in 1928, is to collect, preserve, and interpret objects and information related to the cultural and natural history of Inyo County and the Eastern Sierra, from Death Valley to Mono Lake.
In addition to our amazing hospitality, we offer special packages to the hiking community.
When you book a stay with us between June and October you can add a resupply package and receive significant discounts compared to adding the same items separately.
We offer a resupply package for one person, and a resupply package for two.
The discount will be automatically applied.

No. Unfortunately, portering is strictly regulated by the USFS and is Illegal.
The only place you can legally hire to bring you food on the trail from Onion Valley is the Sequoia Kings Pack Outfit.
It is legal for you to leave your own food in the bear containers at the Onion Valley trailhead before you start your trip if you are trying to stay on trail.
Be aware that if you do not label your pick up dates your food may be thrown away by USFS.
We know that thru-hiking can be unpredictable and we do our best to accommodate for early or late arrivals.
All of our cabins are non-smoking and are named after a nearby mountain pass.
Each room comes equipped with a full bathroom, free WiFi, cable TV, microwave, refrigerator and an electric kettle for complimentary in-room coffee and tea.
New beds and linens provide a restful end to a busy day exploring the Eastern Sierras.
We have 3 dog friendly rooms and charge $15 extra a night/per pet.
Paiute is a suite in our Bunkhouse with a separate living room and a fully equipped kitchen.
The bedroom has a queen bed and there's a comfy sofa in the living room.
