You'll find many things in the Ghost Town in the exact condition they've been in for centuries, and that's great for exploring, but at the end of the day you'll want air conditioning. That's when you'll want to know about the Big Bend Holiday Hotel, with its gorgeous rooms in a historical West Texas setting. The Holiday Hotel is no franchise resort.

It's lovingly restored and operated by the Bill Ivey family, who are longtime residents of the Terlingua area. You are invited to enjoy yourself just as they do, noting that the Big Bend Holiday Hotel is perfect for raucous revelry or a romantic rendezvous (or both). These vintage rooms have been restored to such an astonishing level of comfort and luxury that you won't believe you're so far away from all your troubles.

You'll forget that you're staying in a nineteenth century ghost town until you open the door -- but you'll know you're in Texas. The decor has an absolute pioneer heritage that has been embellished with twenty-first century opulence.

A prominent Cleveland and Chicago businessman, Perry won some isolated desert property in a New England poker game.
Over the next few years he repeatedly received offers to buy this arrid wasteland and became curious.
Perry visited the Big Bend and learned that his new land in remote Terlingua, Texas, was rich in cinnabar, the ore of mercury.
Taking the news seriously, this avaricious businessman travelled to Almaden, Spain, to study the most successful mercury mine in the world.
Upon his return to Terlingua, Perry created the Chisos Mining Company, incorporating it in 1903, and registering its principal office as Augusta, Maine.
Named for the reddish mercury ore that fueled the industry that was the Chisos Mine, the suite belies the Ghost Town location and offers a rustic yet elegant experience.
The Cinnabar Suite has a bathroom with shower that has custom tile work and lots of custom touches, such as the hand painted sink.
The semi-majestic master bedroom offers a private, cozy, and comfy Queen-sized bed and a chair, etc., etc., etc.
Instead, skip the meeting and walk over to the famous Terlingua Cemetery to greet the ghosts, or just watch the sunset with everyone on the porch over at the Trading Post.
Better yet, have a few amigos/amigas join you for a festive evening at the Starlight Theatre.
If someone's "designated driver" isn't up to the task, the El Patron's versatile living room contains a particularly comfy sleeper sofa (we call it, "el sofa de la siesta grande)."
Originally built to house the Chisos Mine foremen, Casa Buena Vista generously provides the excellent hillside view that suggested the name.
Nestled in the trendiest neighborhood in all of Terlingua, the Candelilla House offers true West Texas elegance.
It's always vacation time here, even though the Terlingua schoolhouse (or what's left of it) is in the front yard.
Perched on a hillside, it offers an everchanging view of sunsets, starlight, and thunderstorms.
The name of the Candelilla House comes from the local cactus that was gathered by the locals and used in the manufacture of women's makeup products.
The owners' family operated both a trading post and a processing facility that kept this Mexican tradition alive.
There are two charming bedrooms, plus a cozy alcove with a futon, and a variety of liviing spaces.
The private road leads you to desert life with a view of the desert, mountains, and everchanging sky.
