A rustic combination of charm, boutique hotel amenities, and bed and breakfast hospitality, the Tallman Hotel is dedicated to providing our guests with concierge-level services. After nearly 40 years of neglect, Upper Lake, California's historic Tallman Hotel re-opened its doors to guests in 2006. Decorated in the "East Lake" style, our fully restored, historic boutique hotel features 17 unique rooms, a sun washed sitting parlor, and an elegant, period furnished dining room with hand painted walls.

The Tallman Hotel's beautifully appointed accommodations feature a variety of room styles including three Bungalow Suites, an ADA accessible Farmhouse Suite, and four Lower Garden Rooms equipped with traditional Japanese Ofuro soaking tubs on private patios. Our entire hotel property is a smoke free environment. Adjacent the hotel, our full-service restaurant and bar, the Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant, is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

The restaurant serves delicious gourmet pub fare year-round.
Services
First opened in the 1880s when Upper Lake, California was a stage coach stop, the now historic saloon became a popular watering hole until being torn down during prohibition.
Rebuilt to match an 1870s-era back bar recycled from a pub in Pennsylvania, the Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant's expansive black walnut bar and dining tables were built on-site by local craftsmen from a 100+ year old tree harvested from the property.
Old-growth redwood wainscoting found hidden behind layers of paint and wallpaper during the hotel's renovation, was rescued and reused in the saloon.
From the moment you enter, the Tallman Hotel's period-perfect details and sophisticated design choices feel firmly rooted in the romance of a turn-of-the-century hotel, but with a modern sensibility.
In their restoration of the 1880s hotel, Candra Scott and Richard Anderson of the design firm Candra Scott & Anderson sought to honor the historic hotel's past while ushering it into the 21st Century.
Another important goal for the interior design was to evoke a sense of place, weaving the natural beauty of Upper Lake's flora and fauna into the decor.
In keeping with our naturalist ethos and eco-friendly accommodations, the Tallman Hotel is committed to preserving the environment.
Our rustic faade belies the state-of-the-art, renewable geothermal and solar energy systems used to heat and cool our facilities.
The hotel and restaurant incorporate a quiet and energy efficient GeoExchange system for heating, air conditioning and hot water generation.
Forty three 300-foot wells have been drilled beneath the property.
Water continually circulates through a closed loop system of pipes connecting to the wells, emerging at the constant temperature of the ground, approximately 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
