Squaw Valley is the gateway to two of the world's natural wonders. Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks. Here you will discover the deepest river canyon in the world ( carved by the mighty Kings River ) and the largest trees in the world ( the Giant Sequoia Redwoods ). Originally built in 1950, the Squaw Valley Motel was one of the first motorcourts in California and provided lodging for tourists and visitors to the area's two national parks.

Now, in 2016, we have extensively remodeled and updated our facility while restoring the rustic character and ambiance of the original design. While our rooms are small, as is the nature of motorcourts, we have strived to create a clean and comfortable environment that is a step back in time to bygone days where hospitality was the norm, not the exception.

We are one of the area's original settling families and, since the 1800's, we have welcomed travelers from all around the world seeking to experience the majesty of one of the great natural wonders of the world.
Services
The "Original" Squaw Valley Motel was built in 1950, shortly after the opening of California State Highway 180 which provided access to the Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks.
Situated on the highway in the community of Squaw Valley, it was the gateway to the parks.
It originally consisted of 6 single motel rooms with an adjacent cafe for both guests, tourists, and local residents.
Motels of this era were very compact in size and provided very basic lodging services.
Over the years the motel evolved.
Our family settled in Dunlap (originally called Shipe's Valley) in the mid-1800's.
We were cattle ranchers and the Squaw Valley-Dunlap area was an ideal foothill location that provided plentiful rainfall that produced excellent native grasslands for forage.
In the later 1800's, logging operations commenced in what is now the Sequoia National Forest and the Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks.
The area was rich in stands of pine, fir, cedar, and some unbelievably huge trees that we know today as the Sequoia Redwoods.
We purchased the Squaw Valley Motel in early 2016.
Originally built in 1950 as a small highway motorcourt, the motel offered a total of 8 rooms and it was in dire need of a face lift.
The rooms have been extensively rebuilt with new sound walls, flooring, and finishes.
Our goal was to create a step back in time, but with modern amenities.
As our rooms are small, we have tried to focus on a visually appealing rustic design with attention to good functional use of the available space.
Each of the rooms feature tongue & groove wood accent walls, heartwood redwood baseboards and window surrounds, and ceiling treatments with wood crown molding and lighted ceiling fans.
