Alyssa House Bed and Breakfast offers a warm welcome to Virginia's Eastern Shore. The owner/innkeeper, Kathy Glaser, is a nurse practitioner who has spent 20 years working for the U.S. Department of State in American Embassies around the world. During those years she traveled extensively and collected most of the beautiful items you see in the Inn.
While she lived overseas, her roots were in the Hampton Bay area. Before embarking on a diplomatic career, she graduated from Old Dominion University (ODU) and raised two boys in Virginia Beach. She has maintained a vacation home in Cape Charles for the past 20 years, but after retirement opened her bed and breakfast. Alyssa House was originally built in 1905 by Mr. Conrad Grimmer who was one of the first builders in Cape Charles.
Mr. Grimmer built the original gazebo at the beachfront, and also built the original Town Hall. Since Cape Charles was mostly built on swamp land, bridges were constructed from street to street, and many of these were built by Mr. Grimmer.
